Every part of our lives has been digitised.
Every industry and every organisation will have to transform itself.
The whole tech industry is changing at a phenomenal pace right now. Airline executives around the world see the need to invest in digitising their business—to improve customer experience and streamline operations. While many leaders claim that they have the vision to change, realising their vision is a challenge. Legacy technologies, operational silos and cultural resistance create barriers in the airline industry that is traditionally known as lagging in digital innovation.
Yet change must happen.
At Aviation Festival Asia 2017 we invite leading CIOs to share insights on what impact the digital revolution will continue to have in the airline industry, how to move fast and think big.
We’re excited to have confirmed CIOs from AirAsia, Garuda Indonesia and Vistara to join us at our CIO session, which will start with a 15-min interview with each CIO on the opportunities and challenges they are facing, followed by a panel discussion.
Below is a brief introduction of who they are and the abstract of what they will be talking about.
Declan Hogan, Chief Information Officer, AirAsia
Declan has 20 years of experience in IT, 10 of which at top management level. Prior to joining AirAsia, he was Vice President of IT at flydubai in UAE where he setup and managed the IT function. He has extensive IT experience in various industries including Telecoms, Real Estate and Private Equity; and thus can offer us valuable cross-industry insights.
Denny Permana, VP of Information Technology and Strategy, Garuda Indonesia
Like Declan, Denny is equipped with extensive 20 years of experience as a technology professional. In line with Garuda Indonesia’s push to become an “IT-based airline” by 2020, he has led strategic projects for Garuda including the establishment of the company’s Enterprise IT Architecture and Roadmap, and the migration of core systems and applications to the cloud. Major achievements include success in migrating more than 8,000 users of on premise exchange and more than 100 on premise application to the cloud without any major disruptions.
Ravinder Pal Singh (Ravi), Chief Information & Innovation Officer, Vistara
Ravi is an award winning technologist and has fathered various IT organisations and created their future technology avatars. As Chief of Information and Innovation for Vistara, he is taking the lead to consolidate, identify, acquire, evaluate and incubate right technology for the airline’s business. He is also working to induce innovation and thoughtfulness as core to Vistara’s culture, thereby creating communities and co-creation to realize ideas as true business differentiators.
Together, Declan, Denny and Ravi will cast their views on the following areas that matters to the digital transformation of the airline business.
- How much should airlines digitise their business? What’s at stake if we don’t?
- If the benefits of digitising the airline business are clear, how should we execute it? What are the holdbacks? What are the key areas we need to focus on?
- What are the tech trends that we can tap on to make a big difference? How to balance innovation versus budgeting?
- What will be the travel’s next big things? Should we now be thinking seriously about the new emerging technologies, such as AI, robotics, IoT; or are they still too far away? And if it’s not, then how should the industry prepare for a new normal?
