At ST Logistics’ warehouse in Singapore, you may spot driverless vehicles and robotics whizzing around the 100,000 sq ft space to pack and pick up goods.
Rrobotics and autonomous vehicles are being leveraged to improve operational efficiency at warehouse, and when implementing the technologies, the challenges arise in warehouse setups and related storage infrastructure. How do you efficiently plan and control robotic motions for picking and transferring items? How do you ensure safety? With these questions in mind, we invite Eric Sim, Vice President of Strategy & Technology at ST Logistics to join us at TECHX Asia 2017 to share how ST Logistics plans to tap on robotics, automated vehicles and emerging technologies.
We caught up with Eric in a quick interview where he shared with us some of his passions and gives a teaser of what he will be sharing at the event.
1. Could you share something about yourself with our readers?
I actually like coding and is a java programmer from my Accenture days. I have completed a few java programs during my personal time. These programs help me to automate some of the routine work I need to do on a personal basis.
2. Could you give our readers a quick teaser on what you will be speaking at the show?
We have a unique customer requirements and our automated solution enables us to future-proof our warehouse solution for this strategic customer.
3. Why is this topic close to your heart?
Technology is the driving productivity for the local logistics industry and will be the competitive advantage for many companies. This is exciting times and finally we are making logistics sector “sexy” in Singapore.
4. Could you share your thoughts on what the future of the logistics industry might look like and how we should prepare ourselves to be future-ready?
eCommerce is likely to be key and will be the game change for the logistics sector. We will be delivering more and more products directly to customers and retails stores will be the places to provide customer experience only. This will extends not only to FMCG products but also highly regulated products such as medicines. Our logistics solution need to be future-proof for such a scale.
Eric will be joining us at this year’s TECHX Asia, taking place 6-7 September 2017 in Singapore. As Asia’s leading event on commercial applications of emerging technologies, TECHX will bring together leading minds, entrepreneurs and innovators across the entire spectrum of emerging technologies: IoT, drones, AI, 3D, robotics, data and blockchain.
