The last-mile delivery market is going to bring the next big disruption in the e-commerce ecosystem, but the last-mile market in India is highly disorganised and dominated by mini trucks mostly run by drivers-cum-owners.

To help close the mismatch in the market between consumers and truck drivers, Jugnoo was launched in 2014 as a hyperlocal on-demand multi-service provider that employs auto-rickshaws as its logistics partners.

Today the start-up is looking at artificial intelligence (AI) as the the technology to help solve the complex puzzle of the last-mile delivery market, where multiple players interact through multiple micro-transactions. Joining us at TECHX Asia 2017Samar Singla, Founder & CEO of Jugnoo will share how AI will orchestrate the last-mile delivery market and change the future of logistics.

Prior to the event. we caught up with Samar in a quick interview where he shared with us some of his passions and gives a teaser of what he will be sharing at the event.

1. Could you share something about yourself with our readers?

Jugnoo is known across the world as the Uber of auto rickshaws (Tuk-Tuks) in India. We are currently the third largest transport aggregator and largest auto rickshaw (tuk-tuk) aggregator coupled with on-demand hyperlocal deliveries. We want to take our start-up success story global on a bigger scale.

We aim to revolutionise the on-demand economy with our cost effective and futuristic B2B tech solutions via Tookanapp.com.

On demand is the latest buzz term that has taken the world by storm and has completely transformed consumer behavior. The most challenging aspect of any on demand business is efficiency in deliveries. Jugnoo was able to convert thousands of uneducated non-smartphone user in countries like India, to people confidently using app-based on-demand technology to earn their livelihood using this powerful tool. It has empowered home-bound women in conservative societies with the option of getting their necessities delivered to them at their doorsteps. Uber has definitely been the front-runner in inducing this paradigm shift, however, Jugnoo has been instrumental at the grass-root level.

2. Could you give our readers a quick teaser on what you will be speaking at the show?

At TechX, we would be speaking about ‘Speeding up last-mile delivery with Artificial Intelligence’.

The most promising part of AI is to make a positive impact of consumer experience. The traditional methods of logistics require high investments. With the ability of Artificial Intelligence to shift through and remember vast amount of information, we can bring the logistics service providers closer to deal with the complexity of factors that affect consumer behaviour. AI is a blank slate for improving and innovating customer experience and we have a powerful tool to streamline the last mile delivery. We want to use this platform to discuss how technology behind logistics services could and provide right vision to the companies to use it to manage their fleet, track and manage deliveries, increase efficiency and reduce costs. We want to share our revolutionary case study that’s transforming cities, one bit at a  time.

3. Why is this topic close to your heart?

For a while now, last-mile deliveries are proving to be a complex puzzle for on-demand enterprises to decipher. With multiple players entering this field, it has become imperative for businesses to get every micro-transaction right. Companies are always looking for tools to enhance their delivery process and streamline their operations. 4. Could you share your thoughts on what the future of the logistics industry might look like and how we should prepare ourselves to be future-ready?

Benjamin Disraeli said ‘Change is inevitable in a progressive society. Change is constant.’ Undoubtedly, logistics industry has taken off with speed, and innovation has given it the necessary, technologically-equipped wings to expand and fly high. AI is fueled by powerful algorithms and algorithms are instructions to the robots, drones, and autonomous vehicles etc. for calculations, data processing and automated reasoning. Future is occupied with AI, Self-driving vehicles, Drones in the skies. Algorithms power them to make use of weather, traffic data to optimize last mile delivery. With the growing capabilities of data collection and AI, the future companies will be likely to understand customer shopping patterns and predict demands. Spatial analytics will help to fill demand supply gap by automatically assigning delivery jobs to drivers, reducing the need for a human dispatcher. Last mile delivery bots e.g Deliverbot, the self-driving robots are already here that  can get you anything to your doorsteps. The future is uncertain, unpredictable, and a lot more, but with the promise of being advanced and more convenient. Is it a small beginning of a bright future for the logistics and delivery space? Time will only tell.
