Most buildings have some level of intelligence built in, whether lighting or fire safety. But today, it’s possible to get more from building data, and ultimately, make better decisions.
Tan Szue Hann, Head, Sustainability for Surbana Jurong will be joining us at TECHX Asia 2017 to share how emerging technologies like IoT, mobile devices and data will orchestrate the management of buildings and change the future of our cities.
- How can disruptive and innovative tech like IoT influence how we design and use buildings?
- How does technology figure in the management of a township or a city?
- What are some examples of building-integrated technologies?
Prior to the event. we caught up with Hann in a quick interview where he shared with us some of his passions and gives a teaser of what he will be sharing at the event.
1. Could you share something about yourself with our readers?
My name is Hann, and I’m Head of Sustainability at Surbana Jurong, a Singapore-based infrastructure, planning, architecture and engineering firm. I look at how, through smart design, and the adoption of technology and innovation, buildings and cities can become more sustainable. I’m also a Registered Architect in Singapore, and we design buildings and urban landscapes that are sustainable and holistically integrated with the environment. These include the BCA SkyLab, the world’s first high-rise rotatable laboratory in the Tropics for new building technologies; as well as turning a mature housing estate in Singapore into a cyclable town, with new cycling parks.
2. Could you give our readers a quick teaser on what you will be speaking at the show?
I’ll be speaking on innovation in sustainable buildings and cities, and how the Internet of Things influences how we design and use buildings. I’ll also be looking at how technology comes into the management of townships and cities. Lastly, I’ll be sharing on new building technologies and how they can create more sustainable and profitable environments.
3. Why is this topic close to your heart?
In the face of climate change and the need for natural resource management, I think technology has a big role to play in ensuring that our environments remain sustainable and viable for life, while ensuring that development of cities and towns does not get hampered. Sharing our strategies in designing more sustainable environments, and how that actually adds value and savings to real estate, will contribute to that global conversation.
4. Could you share your thoughts on what the future of the construction industry might look like and how we should prepare ourselves to be future-ready?
The future of the construction industry will be intelligent, responsive and sustainable! I’ll be sharing more of a sneak peek into our collective future at the talk!
Hann will be joining us at this year’s TECHX Asia, taking place 6-7 September 2017 in Singapore. As Asia’s leading event on commercial applications of emerging technologies, TECHX will bring together leading minds, entrepreneurs and innovators across the entire spectrum of emerging technologies: IoT, drones, AI, 3D, robotics, data and blockchain.
