In April 2016, the Financial Inclusion Summit Asia brought together a group of regional stakeholders to discuss critical challenges and best practises on charting inroads into Asian financial inclusion roadmap for e-payments and mobile banking. We welcomed 100 senior delegates and speakers from the Pan-Asian financial services leveraging a regional outlook for greater thought leadership perspectives.
In 2017, we are delighted to be returning with the 2nd edition of the event at an even greater scale. Roya Mahboob – CEO, Digital Citizen Fund, Afghanistan
Roya Mahboob is an Afghan entrepreneur and philanthropist focused on building #DigitalLiteracy for women and children in developing countries. Roya is the Founder and CEO of Afghan Citadel Software Company (ACSC) , which is based in Afghanistan. Roya founded ACSC with the intention to facilitate more jobs for recent graduates, especially girls, and help them find opportunities in the new IT markets of Afghanistan. Roya’s personal goal for #Digital Literacy is to bridge the gap between developed and developing countries by offering practical online skills in her new company and platform EdyEdy for youth in developing countries.
Rachel Freeman – Advisory Manager, Financial Institutions Asia, IFC Hong Kong & China
Rachel Freeman leads all financial institution advisory in Asia for the International Finance Corporation including climate finance, MSME finance, payments and agrifinance. She joined IFC in 2001 to set up and manage the Central Asia Leasing Project, one of IFC’s first advisory programs in Central Asia. In 2004, she moved to Johannesburg as the Deputy General Manager of IFC’s advisory services for Sub-Saharan Africa, where she was instrumental in redesigning IFC’s advisory services. She also served as the agribusiness Lead Investment Officer in Central Asia. Prior to joining the IFC, Rachel was involved in several entrepreneurial ventures in the US and Russia and also worked for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Ahbishant Pant – Founder, Cashless Journeys, Mumbai India
Ahbishant is a transaction banking professional with 11 year experience in acquiring and nurturing Cash/Trade portfolio across various geographic (MP/CG/Jharkhand/Maharashtra) & demographic (Rural/Urban/Metro) profiles via continual application of new ideas in sales, service delivery and product development. He carries a deep understanding of payments and cash management market in India ,strong business development ability to drive product development projects from concept to launch.
Michael Schlein – President & CEO, Accion, United States of America
Michael Schlein is the President and CEO of Accion, a global nonprofit dedicated to building a financially inclusive world. A world pioneer in microfinance, Accion has helped build 65 microfinance institutions in 32 countries which currently reach millions of clients providing them with the financial tools that can help improve their lives. Today, Accion has operations and investments throughout much of Latin America, Africa, India, China and the Philippines.
In addition, Accion provides early and seed stage venture capital to new companies that promote disruptive innovation in financial services at the base of the pyramid. Also, Accion created and supports the Center for Financial Inclusion, an outward-focused think tank dedicated to tackling industry-wide challenges. Mr. Schlein brings nearly 30 years of extensive international banking, management and public service experience to his role as President and CEO of Accion.
Henk Van Oosterhout, Microinsurance Network, Luxembourg
With an extensive background in inclusive finance, Henk possesses a wealth of experience spanning over thirty years in two dozen countries across South-East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and Africa. His professional career includes taking on leading roles for projects at GIZ, the World Bank, the European Commission, Rabobank Foundation, and the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, and most recently running his own consultancy firm IFAS in his native Netherlands. Henk is also the author of a number of publications on behavioural finance and regional development.
Jens Glaso – CEO, Blockbonds, Norway
An award Winning Fintech Entrepreneur, Founder & Investor. Jens has founded and developed several companies. Previous working experience as stock broker, trader and advisor for SMEs and wealthy individuals. In 2005 he was hired as Executive Vice President for Optimum ASA and was head of Kristiansand and Brussels. The company experienced a significant increase in revenues and increased its managed capital with 2 billion NOK under his management period. Jens founded the idea of TrustBuddy in the early 2000. The company was official founded and launched November 2009.
Throughout his role as CEO, TrustBuddy expanded to10 countries throughout Europe. TrustBuddy became the worlds biggest Peer-to-Peer(P2P) provider of short term loans and was the first publicly traded P2P company globally and is listed on the NASDAQ OMX First North since 2011. Through several acquisitions TrustBuddy also became the world’s most diversified P2P lender. In June 2015 Jens was elected to the Executive Board of The European Crowdfunding Network AISBL (ECN) a professional network promoting adequate transparency, regulation and governance.
Sreeram Iyer – COO, A.N.Z. Banking Group, Singapore
Sreeram Iyer is the Chief Operating Officer for ANZ Bank’s International & Institutional Banking business. Sreeram is responsible for supporting ANZ’s business strategies across several countries; generating value for customers through Technology and by driving Operations in all the regions of ANZ’s business Sreeram’s portfolio includes Operations, Technology, Property, Transformation and Major Programs. His focus is in Institutional Banking regionally and in the Asian Retail Banking businesses.Sreeram has more than 25 years of experience; including 18 years at Standard Chartered Bank, with experience across diverse functions, disciplines and geographies. He also set up and ran the bank’s offshore Shared Service Centres.
The ecosystems are thriving, regional barriers to entry are falling, opportunity is there to be grasped and KYC regulations are actively in place. The stage is now set for the next Asian financial revolution. It is the ultimate win-win situation, providing the proverbial escape from poverty for millions of Asians and a sustainable yet scalable customer base for commercial businesses.
