The City Government of Cagayan de Oro City launched its mobile payment system for market stall rental last February 23rd and 24th at the kick-off leg of the e-Bayad Tour 2016. USAID E-PESO organized the e-Bayad Tour, in partnership with the city government and payment service provider, Mynt (GCash), and First Community Cooperative. e-Bayad Tour is a multi-city electronic payments caravan aimed at increasing awareness and usage of electronic payments for government transactions. It will be held in four more cities – Batangas, Quezon City, Valenzuela and Iloilo – and will feature other e-payments players such as Land Bank of the Philippines, Development Bank of the Philippines, and Credit Card Association of the Philippines (Quezon City only).
Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar V. Moreno opened the two-day caravan in ribbon-cutting ceremonies held in Cogon Market together with USAID/Philippines Program Management Specialist Tess Espenilla and Mynt Vice President for Business Development, Communications and Trade Marketing JM Aujero. Market vendors from two of the city’s biggest public markets as well as taxpayers were introduced and familiarized on how to speed up payment of monthly market stall rental and business permit fees using their mobile phones. The caravan generated 121 new registrations to mobile payment service.
