Infinera empowers network operators to scale bandwidth while accelerating service innovation and automating optical network operations. Service providers, cloud operators, governments and enterprises across the globe rely on Infinera Intelligent Transport Networks to create rich end-user experiences based on efficient, high-bandwidth optical networks.
On the state of today’s subsea communications industry:
At Infinera we’re seeing the subsea market as being in a renaissance of new cable building – 12 years of no new cables in the Atlantic is now giving way to billions of dollars of new cable investment, driven by the insatiable demand of internet content providers.
On how the industry will evolve over the next 5 years:
By that time it’s very likely that even new subsea cables will be approaching the Shannon limit in terms of the terminal equipment being used on them. Technologies like Nyquist subcarriers and constellation shaping will push right against that limit. L-band may become attractive as C-band capacity is reached, and a new generation of powerful application-specific integrated circuits may be able to deliver more effective non-linear compensation than is possible today.
The one key challenge the industry is facing and how to overcome it:
The main challenge is a matter of physics – the fact that we can already see how developments in today’s technology will push up against the Shannon limit. Where will the next chunk of capacity come from? Infinera has the best optical component and coherent digital experts in the world, so if anyone can solve this problem, we can.
On participating in Submarine Networks World 2018:
This is a great opportunity to meet all the key players in the subsea industry in one place. Instead of dozens of international trips, we can arrange back-to-back meetings with subsea operators from around the world who are eager to understand how Infinera is achieving such incredible results in recent subsea field trials and deployments.
Over the past 12 months Infinera has begun shipping the most advanced subsea transmission solution in the industry. On cable after cable we are finding that we’re beating the competition for spectral efficiency, fiber capacity, ease of deployment and flexibility of service delivery. We’d love the opportunity to explain how we’ve achieved this and how we can help operators achieve their subsea service goals.
Meet with the Infinera team at Submarine Networks World 2018 (24-26 September, Suntec Singapore), where they will be joined by 600 industry leaders at the only annual platform dedicated for the subsea communications industry to meet, exchange knowledge and develop new strategies and partners.
Two of Infinera’s representatives will be speaking at the conference in the following sessions:
Scott Jackson, Vice President of Subsea Business Group
Conference Day Two, Wednesday, 26th September 2018, 1100-1115
Diving for dollars: Monetizing subsea capacity in the cognitive world
Peter Zwinkels, Global Sales VP
Conference Day Two, Wednesday, 26th September 2018, 1200-1240
Panel: Assessing the upgrades market in a data-driven future
